At Malvern College Hong Kong, we are excited to offer our Forest-Beach School (FBS) programme for pupils in Prep 1 to Prep 3. Under the guidance of our dedicated leader, who is the only Level 4 trained Forest Leader in Asia, we are uniquely positioned to provide an enriching outdoor education experience that sets a benchmark in the region. Our leader’s expertise allows her to train other Forest School Leaders, further promoting the benefits of outdoor learning.

Through regular sessions held in a variety of safe weather conditions, pupils extend their education beyond the confines of traditional classrooms. They engage with the rich and diverse outdoor environment, experiencing exciting and challenging opportunities that contribute to a holistic education.

The Forest-Beach School programme is rooted in the philosophy of child-led learning, which emphasises the use of all five senses. Nature, the outdoors, and open spaces transform into the children’s temporary classrooms, where educational sessions are designed around themes that are intricately connected to their learning on campus as part of the IB PYP curriculum. This integration ensures that the concepts explored in the classroom are reinforced and expanded upon in outdoor settings, providing pupils with a deeper understanding of their studies.

Through engaging games and group activities, such as hide-and-seek or scavenger hunts, pupils develop teamwork, interpersonal skills, and cooperation. Additionally, practical activities like shelter building, tool handling, and lighting fires help enhance self-esteem and foster individual practical and intellectual skills in a supervised setting.
