Mathematics in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Malvern College Hong Kong is designed to build a strong foundation in mathematical concepts and skills for students aged 11 to 16. Our aim is to cultivate critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of mathematical principles that are applicable to real-world situations.
The MYP Mathematics curriculum employs an inquiry-based and student-centred approach, promoting active engagement with mathematical concepts. Key elements of the teaching approach include:

Malvern students experience learning in four key areas of mathematical study:
Developing a deep understanding of number systems and arithmetic operations.
Exploring algebraic expressions, equations, and functions, allowing students to manipulate mathematical relationships.
Learning about data collection, representation, analysis, and interpretation, enabling students to make informed decisions based on statistical findings.
Investigating shapes, properties, and spatial relationships, including the study of angles, congruence, similarity, and the applications of trigonometry.
Students are challenged to develop new mathematical knowledge and use and apply it in different situations, engaging with the thrill of mathematical exploration.
As part of their educational journey, students at Malvern College can extend their learning during the Foundation Years and progress to study an extended course in Remove (Year 10) and Hundred (Year 11). This pathway allows motivated students to deepen their mathematical understanding and preparedness for further academic pursuits.
