Key Concepts and Global Contexts

The curriculum is organised around eight key concepts and a variety of global contexts that encourage students to connect their learning to real-world issues. The key concepts include:

  • Aesthetics
  • Change
  • Communication
  • Connections
  • Perspective
  • Responsibility
  • Scientific and Technical Innovation
  • Systems

These concepts guide inquiry and exploration, helping students develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of the world around them.

Conceptual Understanding

A core aspect of the MYP is the emphasis on conceptual understanding. Students engage with these key concepts across subjects, facilitating a deeper application of knowledge in familiar and new contexts. This approach encourages critical thinking and promotes the integration of various subject areas.

Holistic Development

The MYP Middle Years Programme aims for the holistic development of the whole child – intellectually, emotionally, physically, and socially. It supports academic growth while also prioritising social and emotional well-being, enabling students to become balanced and reflective individuals.

Collaboration and Community

Collaboration is vital within the MYP framework. Students work together with peers and engage with their communities, fostering essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and empathy. The MYP encourages active participation in both school and community activities, promoting a sense of belonging and responsibility.

Assessment and Reflection

Assessment in the MYP is a continuous and formative process, focusing on students’ progress and understanding. They are encouraged to reflect on their learning journeys, set personal goals, and engage in self-assessment. This practice enhances their awareness of growth, learning needs, and their overall educational experience.

Global Perspective

The MYP International Baccalaureate nurtures a global mindset, encouraging students to be open-minded and respectful of diverse cultures and perspectives. By exploring international issues and connections, students develop a profound appreciation for diversity and a sense of global citizenship.

Through its comprehensive and connected framework, the MYP Middle Years Programme equips young learners with the skills and attitudes necessary for success in an interconnected world, making the learning experience both meaningful and engaging.

Why Choose the International Baccalaureate MYP?

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) is an exceptional choice for students as it develops critical thinking and independent learning skills, empowering them to become analytical and self-sufficient learners. The MYP perfectly connects knowledge across subjects, enabling students to see the relevance of their studies while encouraging global awareness and cultural understanding. Through a strong emphasis on communication, collaboration, and reflection, the programme prepares students not only for future academic endeavours but also for active participation in an increasingly interconnected world. By choosing the MYP, students build a solid foundation that supports their personal and academic growth, paving the way for success in future educational programmes.
